Southern Buttermilk Pie
This creative grandmother recommeds this southern classic!

Ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- To make a Southern buttermilk pie, you’ll need a 9-inch unbaked pie crust ready to go in your pie dish. Preheat your oven to 350°F so it’s nice and warm when your pie is ready to bake.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sugar, flour, and salt. This helps give the filling a smooth, slightly thick texture. Crack in three large eggs and mix well until it’s nice and creamy.

- Now add one cup of buttermilk, half a cup of melted butter (cooled slightly), one tablespoon of lemon juice, and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk it all together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.

- Pour the filling into your pie crust and gently place it in the oven. Bake it for about 50 to 60 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set. You’ll know it’s ready when it jiggles just a little in the center but doesn’t slosh. If the crust is browning too fast, you can tent the edges with foil.

- Let the pie cool completely before slicing. It sets up beautifully as it cools. Some folks like to chill it in the fridge before serving, but room temperature is lovely too. You can squeeze a ribbon of salted caramel, dust the top with a little powdered sugar or serve it with fresh berries. Make sure to add a dollop of whipped cream for an extra-creamy treat. It’s sweet, a little tangy, creamy, and rich, true comfort in a slice.

📝 Tips:
- Don’t overbake or the custard might crack.
- You can substitute vinegar for lemon juice if you prefer a more traditional flavor.
- Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.
